Luo Dexiu's annual seminars in London this summer of 2009 were absolutely amazing! A great turn out and friendly atmosphere of hard work and attention to detail. This year the focus overall was on structure and detail in the Houtian line 7 - (Ye,Ji,Diao,Lou,Beng,Zhuang) - 'Swing the Body and Insert from Behind palm' from the circle Baguazhang - Tai Xing from the Xingyi - . A seminar or two on fighting / training methods kept us all sweaty and alert as Luo demonstrated some clear and affective techniques. There were many happy expressions of amazement!
Its only once a year, but its worth the wait, even if you dont train with us regularly! Luo is committed to visiting Europe once a year to keep up the pace of learning and focus on quality, and ultimately show that Bagua is not a wishy washy martial art!
The gathering of different martial arts stylists always pleases me as we dont wont to keep Luo to ourselves. This year we had Judo, Karate, Kick Boxers, Boxer, Jujitsu, Mantis, Lao Gar, Tai Chi and of course Baguazhang and Xingyi practitioners. There were also some visitors from Germany and Switzerland this year! The mix is refreshing and we encourage it! Traditional martial arts are not as popular as they were a decade ago, with the rise of ringside martial arts, but Luo seminars always seem to get the traditionalists out of the woodwork!
One new student said to me after the seminars - "..he is a really good teacher... i mean he can really see what i do wrong instantly, and break it down so i can correct it quickly..." - That is from an established Judo guy... who has plenty of experience and wise eyes for the quality that Luo exudes with such enthusiasm.
A big thanks to Ed Hines this year who amongst other things apart from demonstrating and helping with the occasional translation, arranged a BBQ!
After 4 sessions (2 full days and 2 evenings) our minds could take no more saturation and our fore arms and shoulders could bruise no darker!
Thanks to UCL for letting us use the Mandela training hall and Kelly Street for the use of the big hall!
